Saudi Hajj Pilgrimage, 2026

Kaaba At Masjid Al Haram Night

The Saudi Hajj Pilgrimage 2026 (Islamic Year 1447 AH) is one of the most significant religious gatherings in the world, drawing millions of Muslim pilgrims to Makkah and the surrounding holy sites. Conducted once every Islamic year, Hajj follows a strictly regulated schedule, controlled quotas, and government-approved travel systems to ensure safety, order, and religious compliance.

This guide provides reliable information to help pilgrims prepare for Hajj 2026, covering essential travel aspects.

When Will Hajj 2026 Take Place?

Hajj occurs during Dhul Hijjah, the twelfth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The exact dates depend on official moon sighting in Saudi Arabia, meaning final confirmation is issued shortly before the pilgrimage.

Expected Hajj 2026 timeline (subject to moon sighting):

  • Expected Hajj days: Approximately 25-29 May 2026 (subject to moon sighting)
  • Day of Arafah: Around 26 May 2026
  • Eid al-Adha: Around 27 May 2026

Important: Pilgrims must rely only on official Saudi announcements for final dates.

How Saudi Arabia Organises Hajj Pilgrims

Saudi Arabia manages Hajj participation through a three-layer framework that defines how many pilgrims may attend, how they are approved, and how they register and receive services.

  • Country-wise pilgrim quotas determine the maximum number of pilgrims each country may send.
  • A centralised digital system, overseen by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, verifies pilgrim eligibility, approves packages, and authorises visa issuance.
  • Registration routes operate within this system, allowing eligible pilgrims to apply either directly through Nusuk Hajj or via their home-country Hajj missions.
  • Under the Nusuk Hajj (direct Saudi route), eligible international pilgrims register on the Saudi government’s digital platform, where they submit personal and passport details, select an approved Hajj package, and complete payment online. Once verified, the Hajj visa and on-ground services are issued as part of the selected package, with arrangements managed under Saudi supervision.
  • Under the home-country Hajj mission route, pilgrims apply through their national Hajj authority or a government-approved agency in accordance with the country’s allocated quota. The national authority manages applicant selection and documentation before integrating approved pilgrim details into Saudi Arabia’s central system for final authorisation and visa issuance.

Health & Vaccination Requirements for Hajj 2026

Saudi Arabia enforces mandatory health regulations for all pilgrims. Pilgrims without valid certificates may be denied entry.

Documents Required for Hajj 2026

All pilgrims travelling for Hajj 2026 (1447 AH) must carry approved travel and health documents. Any missing or mismatched information may result in visa refusal or denied entry into Saudi Arabia.

  • Valid Passport: Valid for the full Hajj travel period; details must match all applications.
  • Approved Hajj Visa / Travel Authorisation: Mandatory; issued only through Saudi-authorised platforms or home-country Hajj authorities. Tourist or visitor visas are not accepted for Hajj.
  • Accurate Personal Details: Name, date of birth, and passport number must match across the passport, visa, Hajj registration system, and airline booking.
  • Additional National Hajj Documents (if applicable): Selection confirmation, payment receipt, or group allocation proof.
  • Vaccination Certificates: As discussed above

Note: Non-Hajj visas, including Saudi Tourist Visa , visit, business, or transit visas, do not grant permission to perform Hajj and cannot be used to access Hajj-controlled zones during the pilgrimage period.

Entry Controls and Movement Restrictions

Saudi Arabia enforces strict access controls during Hajj to manage crowd flow and security. Entry into Makkah and designated Hajj areas is permitted only for pilgrims holding a valid Hajj authorisation. Identity checks and permit verification may be conducted at checkpoints throughout the pilgrimage period.

Pilgrims attempting to access Hajj zones without proper authorisation may be denied entry or redirected, regardless of other Saudi visa types held.

Important Advisory

Hajj procedures, health requirements, visa policies, and travel regulations are subject to change based on official announcements. Pilgrims should regularly monitor updates from authorised sources and ensure full compliance with the latest requirements before travel.
